"This is the third time Matt has made the journey up north to support our topic on Australia. The children have an amazing day learning all about life in Australia and listening to and playing their own didgeridoos. Matt is extremely knowledgeable and has a lovely calm manner with the children, he is also an expert at playing the didgeridoo! The children particularly loved Matt's boomerang demonstration and can't wait to try out their own."
Nicola Jordan, Teacher, Cheadle Primary School, Stockport.
"Matt is a highly professional, fun and enthusiastic and clearly has a passion for his job. This was a fantastic, hands on workshop that really enriched the curriculum on our Australia day and every single one of the children went home with a smile on their face. Matt arrived early with a wide selection of Aboriginal didgeridoos, art, boomerangs and maps and instantly had the children excited to learn more. He had an excellent way with the children and adapted his approach to ensure that all of the pupils with additional needs enjoyed their experience. Matt went above and beyond expectations and had also made a boomerang for each of the children to decorate in their own time. If we cover this topic again in the future, I have no doubt that we will invite Matt to hold another workshop at our school. Thank you again Matt for all of your hard work and time that you put into making the experience so special for the children."
Harriet Rowland, Teacher, Springwell School, Southampton.
"Our school had a fantastic day when Matt came in to teach our children about the didgeridoo. He was flexible - running several short sessions throughout the day to children from years 1 to 6 - and very knowledgeable. Matt was very knowledgeable and had a manner with the children. Both children and staff had enjoyed the sessions and are still talking about it over a week later."
Jessica Wells, Deputy Head, St Andrew's Benn CofE Primary School, Rugby.
"We had a lovely day and the parents have also been saying they heard lots about it! We've also carried on the learning by writing recounts of the day and thank you letters."
Amy Hornett, Teacher, Pattishall C of E Primary School, Towcester.
"Just had another fantastic didgeridoo workshops with Year 1. The whole morning brought to life our Australian Topic. The children were thoroughly engaged from start to finish. They enjoyed learning to play the didgeridoo and loved painting and throwing their boomerangs.
Matt's knowledge and enthusiasm had the children engrossed throughout."
Mary Grey, Class Teacher, St.Marys Catholic Primary School, Portslade.
"What a fantastic Aboriginal learning experience for our children! Matt was extremely knowledgeable, engaging and entertaining. Not only did he teach our children how to play the didgeridoo, but also about many different aspects of Australia’s history. Matt even made all ninety children a cardboard boomerang, which we decorated and used during another theme lesson. We will definitely be rebooking him for next year!
Emily (and Mel and Rory!), Teachers, Hampton Vale Primary School, Peterborough.
"The pupils and staff enjoyed your session so much yesterday. I am so glad we booked you. It was very educational, you had such an amazing array of props and artefacts and it was so interactive. All going well we do hope to book you again next year."
Hannah Sweeney, Teacher, Durston House, Ealing.
"Matt has been leading didgeridoo workshops at our school for the last 3 years and each one has been an extremely entertaining and enjoyable experience for the children. Matt provides a comprehensive, hands-on experience of the didgeridoo, from the instrument’s history and how it is made, through to playing in a group performance. We’ll certainly be booking in again for next year and would thoroughly recommend his workshops to other schools!"
Katie Leedham, Teacher, Battling Brook Primary School, Leicester.
"The day began with a wonderful bang! The introductory assembly was welcomed and well received by children, parents and teachers. So many parents were memorized by your talent and historical facts of the didgeridoo. I would like to thank you for your professionalism, passion and care shown to the children during your workshops. The children had an amazing time, and were extremely excited to begin making their own didgeridoos. The consensus we found was that all children were truly amazed at the different type of didgeridoos and varied sounds they made. They were able to explain how didgeridoos were made, where they came from and why they were first made. Your visit lent well to the subject area we are studying in the year group. Of course the highlight for all was having an opportunity to play their own didgeridoo. We all watched the filmed footage of the visit as a pleasant reminder of the day.
Thanks again for sharing such interesting information with us and allowing the children to learn in a fun way. We do hope to see you again in the future."
Trevor Bignall, Teacher, Coldfall Primary Scool, Muswell Hill.
"Matthew did an excellent job when he led a workshop at our school. The day was fun, full of enthusiasm and at an appropriate level for each year group. Matthew involved all the children in the day and gave everyone a hands on experience of the didgeridoo. Matthew would most certainly be welcome at our school in the future."
Arzu Gabb, Teacher, Liphook Infant School, Hampshire.
"Thank you so much for the most fantastic day last Friday. The kids were all talking about it today and the staff are still raving about you. It was a brilliant workshop and really engaged some of our most difficult children."
Beth Hanham, Teacher, Broadfields Primary School, Edgeware.
"Matt visited our school for the day in January. We follow a topic based curriculum across the school and use continents as the stimulus for each year groups learning. Within Year 3 we study Australasia so wanted a didgeridoo workshop so that the children would have the opportunity to hear and see 'real-life' examples.
Matt was happy to adapt the day to suit us and it was great that he gave an assembly to our Year 3 children at the start of the day. We also invited Parent/Carers who really appreciated the opportunity to see that their children would be experiencing for the rest of the day. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and loved having the opportunity to handle all the objects and resources that Matt brought with him. Matt was extremely knowledgeable meaning that the children didn’t just gain knowledge about didgeridoos but about other elements of Aboriginal Australian life. The children got the chance to handle a spear and boomerangs, which they thought were fantastic!
We also had the chance to play didgeridoos; this was probably the thing that the children enjoyed most of all. With Matt’s help all felt that they had achieved by the end of the session and they definitely learnt a lot as well as having a super time.
We will definitely book workshops again next year, a fabulous day has by all!"
Debbie Horn, Coldfall Primary School, Musswell Hill.
